My name is Diana Ramos, and I am reaching out to request your support as my mother bravely battles HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer.
For those unfamiliar, HER2-positive breast cancer is a particularly aggressive form of cancer characterized by an excess of the HER2 protein, which promotes rapid cancer growth. Despite targeted therapies designed to slow her cancer’s progression, it spread to her brain in 2023. Three weeks ago, we received the devastating news that her cancer has returned as leptomeningeal metastasis, a rare and complex condition where cancer spreads to the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Her oncologist also shared with us that this diagnosis typically carries a prognosis ranging from six to twenty-two months and requires the most advanced and specialized care available.
Because leptomeningeal disease is so complex and difficult to treat, my mom will begin treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas on November 5th, 2025. MD Anderson is recognized nationally and internationally for its leadership in cutting-edge treatments and clinical trials specifically for leptomeningeal disease, offering the best possible chance for my mom to beat this cancer.
Unfortunately, our insurance does not cover this out-of-state treatment, making us responsible for all costs including medical scans, tests, doctor visits, flights, and lodging. This Gofundme is about giving my mom the chance to fight with every possible option. I would rather her have every opportunity at MD Anderson than live with the regret of wondering if we missed a chance to save her.
My mom is truly the heart and soul of our family. Her strength, love, and unwavering spirit inspire my family and I every day. Behind her stands my dad, a Los Angeles County sheriff for over 36 years, who balances the demands of his career with devoted caregiving. While the road ahead is difficult, our faith and hope remain strong. Every donation, prayer, and message of support is a vital lifeline for our family during this challenging journey.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping my mom fight cancer!
