Help Diana Recover From Her Injury and Overcome Hardship

Donation protected
Hi, as some of you know, I am Diana Sophia, a Mexican-born singer, songwriter, and interdisciplinary artist based in New York who needs some help. Last July, I was diagnosed with De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis, an occupational injury caused by poor ergonomics, forced posture, and repetitive movements.

For the last 10 years, I worked as an organist and singer, but the organ at the last place I worked did not have proper ergonomics, and the pedals did not function correctly. I began to struggle with pain at the beginning of 2025. In July, I took a month off to rest and visited doctors, and requested adjustments supported by my orthopedist — like bringing an electric keyboard so I could return to work safely while recovering — but these adjustments were never provided. Instead, they decided to "let me go," leaving me without a job and injured.

This job was my entire source of stability. It appeared five years ago during the pandemic, when I lost the four part-time jobs I had to survive and make ends meet. Having a single job that covered all my bills felt like a huge achievement.

However, in the summer of 2024, I faced some financial challenges; all my bills increased with an unexpected move I had to make. So I began fulfilling all the music duties required at the only church where I was working, performing 6 to 11 music services each week. I was like two musicians in one, singing while playing the organ, without weekends, holidays, or adequate rest, and managing everything myself in NYC. Unfortunately, this workload on an instrument with poor ergonomics, combined with the lack of support to make the necessary adjustments to protect my health, left me in an extremely vulnerable position — injured, without a job, and facing everything on my own in a country that is not my own.

A Mexican friend of mine, after learning what had happened, and that I had gone through three months of physical therapy in NY without improvement, and that I was offered surgery — something that poses many risks for musicians — recommended a physical therapist in Mexico who specializes in musicians’ injuries. I began long-distance virtual treatment recently, and my full recovery is expected to take three to four more months. During this time, I should not use my hands extensively to support my recovery.

For five months, I have been struggling with pain and with **no income**. I’ve been using my savings to cover my treatment, rent, and basic expenses. I live alone and have no family here, so everything falls entirely on me, and I do not qualify for unemployment benefits due to how I was classified at my previous job. My savings are running out. I am worried and in a very vulnerable moment because I need help to pay for my rent, have some food, and continue healing.

That is why I am creating this campaign to raise $6,000 dollars, which will cover:

1. **Rent** — Three months of rent that will give me the stability to complete my recovery without losing my home. (I covered December’s rent; your support will help me with January, February, and March.)
2. **Getting the Level 1 of my EFT Practitioner Certification** — Emotional Freedom Technique is a tapping method I want to integrate into my music practice and creative work, offering sessions to help others.

Asking for help has never been easy for me. I’m used to handling everything on my own — being the strong woman who carries it all — but right now I truly need your support to help me pay my rent while I recover my musical spirit as I heal. Being injured, without family here, and unable to work has been extremely difficult. This campaign is the only way I currently have to keep a roof over my head, continue my treatment, and move toward full recovery.

Your support will allow me to use this recovery time wisely: to heal and to develop tools that will also help me recover financially.

It’s good to know that this year I completed training and began volunteering with "Hidden Water," a restorative justice response to the impact of child sexual abuse. For the past four years, I have been figuring out how to use my music and creativity to create spaces of connection and build chains of support for trauma survivors. This journey has not been easy. I’ve faced many setbacks, including this injury, but I also recognize that the present moment is giving me a deeper sense of direction and purpose.

Your help will allow me to see the light at the end of this tunnel: to regain my health, stability, artistic work, and my ability to connect with the voices of others who, like me, are survivors facing serious challenges and need support and community.

Any contribution — whether it’s a donation, sharing this campaign, or offering any other form of support — makes a profound difference.

Thank you for helping me through this difficult time, and for contributing to a chain of support that extends far beyond my own recovery. ❤️
