This is the living nightmare Diana and her teenage daughter, Lily are going through. On September 27th a landslide and tree went through their house. Today, January 20th their camper they purchased after the hurricane and were living in caught fire. Diana was on her way to work and got an emergency call from her neighbor.
The fire department was there almost instantly, but it was too late. The windows had blown open, the entire camper was engulfed in flames, everything their owned - gone.
Through what has to be a miracle, Lily was not home as a few events called her to a friends home for Petsitting. The fire department said if a human had been in there, they would not have been able to get out with the way the fire was.
Their 5 beloved dogs - dead. One by one, we helped Diana locate each pup, 2 hiding on the bed, two hiding under a table, and Nova, an 11 year old rescue dog hiding in the bathroom. They were burnt but recognizable. The fire department said most of the time, the pets pass from smoke.
Devastation. Heartbreak. Tragedy. Three words that begin to touch the surface of what is felt tonight for them. The Cajun Navy is rapidly responding to finding temporary housing, likely a camper and emergency supplies.
The only way they will make it through this extraordinary loss is with help.
Diana and Lily need a home to put on their land. A single wide trailer would be fantastic, somewhere warm and safe.
The costs and needs are astronomical but this is a start — a new beginning.
