On 6/24/24 while Diana and Kalki were on their dream vacation in South Africa, tragedy struck while their bus was hit by a truck and ran off the road. Both Diana and Kalki sustained broken backs from the incident. Kalki suffered a compression fracture. One of Diana’s vertebrae shattered and a piece was pushing on her spinal cord requiring immediate invasive surgery. A laminectomy, 2 rods, 10 screws and a blood transfusion later she is able to walk. A laminectomy involves removing part or all of the back part of the vertebra, to relieve pressure on the spinal cord or nerves.

We need your support to help cover her medical bills overseas and the physiotherapy she will need when she returns to ensure a full recovery.

They also incurred additional hotel expenses while she was cleared to fly home and the airline did not help so they had to pay to upgrade the tickets because she could only fly that long lying down.

We couldn’t be more thankful that they both made it out alive and both with the ability to walk. Their lives are forever changed and they have a long recovery ahead so any amount no matter how small will help!
