Hello, my name is Diane Martinson; I'm a professional singer. I went to the Mayo Clinic to try and find out what was making my migraine headaches worsen. Turns out that the CT scan showed that one side of my sinuses is completely closed off and shifting my eye socket. I need reconstructive surgery on my eye socket, sinus cavity, and nasal septum due to a rare degenerative condition called Silent Sinus Syndrome (SSS). Sinus surgery and nasal reconstruction is very scary for a singer.
In a medical nutshell, SSS has destabilized my eye's orbital floor (on the top of the maxillary sinus), causing visual problems from my eye sinking; the ongoing pressure of an imploding maxillary sinus is creating a variety of migraine headaches and hearing issues. SSS is a very rare condition, progressive, and surgery consisting of an Anterior Ethmoidectomy will help stabilize my vision, a Maxillary Antrostomy will open the imploding sinus cavities, and a Septoplasty will straighten out my significantly deviated septum. It's a lot at one time so I will require extra healing & rehab time.
I will have my surgery at the Mayo Clinic and I will be in Rochester for a week in September. I have confidence in my Mayo surgery team, and I'll be in good hands with my husband, pianist, and collaborator, JJ taking care of me.
It's been tough for musicians to make an income during the pandemic. My recovery will prevent me from singing for at least six months. Then in rehab, I will work on my new vocal placement/singing, breath techniques, and find my voice again. I hope to receive some financial help here for my medical expenses and lost income.
I'm a performer, an entrepreneur, and a speaker providing edutainment on complementary health and well-being.
I'm looking forward to returning to my musical projects next year, perhaps by the Summer. This new health setback and the difficulty of covid-19 have motivated me to reach out for help and support. It's quite humbling to ask for a financial donation. I've always made my own way. However, I was reminded that when a personal crisis arises, people ask what they can do to help, so I created this GoFundMe opportunity to receive help (know that any amount is much appreciated).
Another way to help me is to share this on your social media. If you're unable to donate at this time, no worries, your words of support will go a long way to strengthen and lift me up!
With love and warm regards,
Di
