My sweet 11-year-old baby, Dezi, is a Chi x Yorkie mix. I’ve owned her her entire life. On December 2nd, tragically, one of the Great Danes accidentally stepped on her while being excited that I came home. Unfortunately, she was stepped on just right, and it snapped her femur bone. Her leg was free twisting, so I called the ER vet in Byron, MI. It was $1250 that night just for pain meds, two X-rays, and to temporarily splint her while we figured out which option to take. The doctor gave me the worst news: she couldn’t be fixed on the spot, and her leg needed to be pinned with a plate or amputated. Though there’s nothing wrong with her leg, it’s often the cheaper option, and I shouldn’t feel guilty or put human feelings on Dezi. She won’t care that she’s missing a leg. However, what’s to stop this from happening again, especially if she only has one leg? So, I’m on here hoping to be able to make up the money to have her bone set so that she may keep her leg. I already am out the $1250 from December 2nd, as you all probably know they don’t do the work without payment. Dezi’s comfort level is the most important thing right now. They want 4000-6000 with a deposit of 5,200 to do surgery. I’m consulting with my local vet however the surgeon at the animal hospital told me normal vets only do amputations. I’d rather her keep her leg but either way I really need some help to be able to do something for her. I have some money and I’m working on getting more to put towards it on my own but I’m scared I’m not going to make it in time.
My name is Melissa, and back in 2024, I was diagnosed with TM (a rare form of MS), and I lost my CDL and job over this finding. I have injuries to my spinal cord caused by my own immune system. I can’t work, so therefore I can’t afford that much. Realizing this, I have given up a lot, including selling most of my horses, with plenty for sale still. Though buyers are nervous because of a viral disease spreading right now, so no one’s buying or moving horses. So, I’m kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place. I was denied disability; they said I could get a job as a cashier and be fired and rehired over and over again since there is such a surplus of that job, with absolutely no concern for my comfort level and permanent pain levels. So I’m begging you all to help me help her. I love her so very much. This has just been so traumatic and devastating to me and my whole family. Thank you for your kindness.
Your donation will go to the vet to help pay for her vet bills. I’m happy to supply receipts if need be.
