As many of you may know, Dez and Adam’s world was recently turned upside down.
On September 4th, Dez was diagnosed with stage IV HR+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer, a diagnosis that she never could have imagined. What started as back pain in April quickly escalated, and after months of treatment that didn't seem to work, she learned that her back pain was due to a compression fracture in her T10 vertebra—caused by cancer that had metastasized to her spine. The cancer in her right breast spread to her bones, and her life was forever changed.
Through this whirlwind of appointments, tests, and doctors’ visits, Dez has been fighting with everything she has. She started radiation treatment on September 16th for her spine and hip, thankfully completed radiation on September 29th and is currently preparing for a possible ovariectomy or hysterectomy. Although it’s been a lot to process, Dez and Adam continue to be thankful for the small victories—such as Dez’s HER2 test being negative, which means she won’t need IV chemotherapy. But there’s still a long road ahead.
In addition to her diagnosis, Adam has also been struggling. He recently had surgery on his hand and will be out of work for another week. With both of them unable to work for the past several weeks, the financial burden has been overwhelming. As we all know, the medical bills never stop coming. Adam will not be back to work for another week and Dez does not have a timeline on her return to work.
