Dewey is a certified therapy dog who has helped students at Hanover High School for over 5 years. He is a treasured member of the entire school community- known and loved by hundreds. When working individually with students, his contribution has been invaluable to their high school years.
Dewey is a very active dog and loves exploring the woods, playing with soccer balls, and running around. Sadly, in late September he experienced a fibrocartilagenous embolism (FCE). The FCE suddenly disrupted the blood flow to his spinal column.

He was rushed to a veterinary hospital and they determined he would need to be taken to Portland to receive treatment and assessment for his condition. Luckily, the team at Maine Veterinary Medical Center is top notch and we are very grateful for their expertise and care. Dewey stayed as a patient there for 5 nights and now that he has returned home has ongoing physical therapy appointments.
The loss of blood supply from the FCE results in neurologic abnormalities- which for Dewey means he will need to learn to re-walk. Maine Veterinary Medical Center gave him a positive outlook for recovery based on his condition, but it will be a long road for Dewey to regain strength and mobility.

Your donation will help contribute to Dewey's treatment, ongoing physical therapy and the costs incurred for him to have an in-patient stay with specialized veterinarians that provided us with the prognosis and treatment plan.
We so appreciate your donations and every little bit helps- if you can spare even the cost of a cup of coffee towards Dewey's fund it will aid in his rehabilitation. Dewey has been such a support to the community and the community support he has already received has been incredible.
