Bonjour/Hi!
Hi everyone, I'm Devon Ellis-Durity an emerging filmmaker who spends her time between Vancouver and Montréal. Between studying geography with a focus on Human Environment (which heavily influenced this story) and commercial acting gigs, I have maintained a long-standing relationship with a production company. I am now applying the knowledge that I have received over the years, and with the encouragement of my mentor, Ann Marie Fleming, I am now making my first short film “Be Right There”.
I am aiming to raise $8,500 to produce this short, with the money going towards Crew, Cast, Prop Rentals, Post Production, Food, and Film Festival Submissions.
BE RIGHT THERE
Logline:
Guy is a young man struggling to connect with his art as well as others. Burdened by his thoughts he decides to go for a walk on a bleak cold winter's night.
A peek into the world of the characters
The peel of Church bells emanates from an imposing steeple that dominates the landscape. The melancholic cry of the bells echoes and can be heard from all directions, felt in the bones of all who are doomed to be near. The wind is cruel, frostbiting flesh if exposed for more than five minutes. Snow drifts and squalls are coursing through the air, making visibility a challenge. A young person with a hollow expression on their face walks amidst the calm chaos. Defeat can be felt off of them. As soon as the call of the bells seem distant the clanging picks up again from another direction. But no church is visible. Maybe it's the same one? This is the bleak depth of winter in Montreal.
Like many Canadian horrors and thrillers, this one takes place in the depths of winter. Films like Edge of Winter, Pontypool, I’m Thinking of Ending Things, Captive, The Lodge, and The Shining are great references for some snowy gloomscapes in both tone and aesthetic. Add in some bells from Don’t Look Now and The Hunchback of Notre Dame and hopefully a sense of dread can be felt.
