Help Devinney fight for her life!

Devinney's health took a terrible turn.  She flew south on Saturday for emergency surgery.  In addition to the already mounting debt from years of medical care, a short-term $9,100 loan was needed to get her in the door for her current treatment.  Her husband is beside himself with worry and left to care for their two young children while solely providing for the household.  In what is expected to be a lengthy recovery for Devinney, he is faced with the hardship of more time off from work and the uncertainty of how to make ends meet.  Any donation to help this young family weather this tragedy would be greatly appreciated.

For the last 6 years Devinney has struggled with ever-worsening, debilitating ailments that have often left her bedridden.  Years of undiagnosed, and often dismissed, abdominal pain, unexplained bleeding, misdiagnosis, emergency room visits, and repetitive colonoscopies left Devinney and her family in emotional and financial ruin.  Then, last year, their hopes were lifted. Devinney had been given a solid diagnosis.  She had endometrial cells riddled throughout her abdomen that, when flared up, caused pain likened to exploding blisters.  Armed with an actual diagnosis, she advocated for herself and sought out an endometriosis specialist in the Bay Area.  After surgery, which included a bowel resection, the surgeon had noted damage to her gall bladder and an unusual amount of adhesions  binding her internal organs.  The surgery had improved Devinney's quality of life tremendously and on occasion she even had the energy to take a walk or volunteer at her daughter’s elementary school.  In recent weeks, her health had taken a steep decline.  She was back at ground zero; bedridden and unable to move without extreme pain.  Her local doctor sent her to the emergency room and the emergency room sent her home.  The same vicious cycle she had experienced for years now.  In reporting her condition to the endometriosis specialist, he immediately ordered specialized CT scans.  Unfortunately, red tape in the local health care system hindered her from getting the needed tests.  She was told to wait a week to see if her condition worsened and prescribed her an anti-acid.  Seeing her in the condition she was in, to us it seemed as though they sent her home to die.  Fortunately, her doctor down south took immediate action and scheduled her for tests and emergency surgery requiring her to get to the Bay Area in two days.  Family and friends have rallied to get Devinney down there and funds were borrowed to get her into surgery.    She is expected to need at least two surgeries in the next week to remove damaged organs and combat the regrown adhesions.  Devinney is the mother of two young children, 3 and 6 years old.  Devinney's wish for the future is to survive and be there to share in the joy of her children's lives.
