Devin’s life didn’t begin with an easy hand. As a young child, he was placed for adoption due to circumstances far beyond his control. His biological mother struggled with addiction, and Devin needed stability, safety, and someone who would fight for him when he couldn’t fight for himself.

That person became Paul.

Paul opened his heart and his home to Devin through foster care and was in the process of formally adopting him—giving Devin something he had never truly had before: a forever family. Paul was more than a foster parent; he was a father figure, a protector, and a constant source of love and encouragement.

Tragically, Paul passed away unexpectedly due to COVID before the adoption could be finalized. Overnight, Devin lost the one person who had anchored his world. His future, and even where he would live, became uncertain once again.

But Devin was not abandoned.

Paul’s fiancée, Connie, stepped forward during the most unimaginable time of grief. Honoring Paul’s love and commitment to Devin, Connie took Devin into her care and made the courageous decision to continue the adoption process. Through resilience, love, and determination, Connie ensured Devin could remain in the stable and nurturing environment Paul had always wanted for him.

Since then, Devin has flourished.

Despite the loss and upheaval he has experienced, Devin has grown into a focused, hardworking, and compassionate young man. He has thrived academically, built confidence in himself, and is now preparing to take the next big step in his life—starting his future through higher education and independence.
