Early Monday morning, our lives changed in an instant. My fiancé /father of 2, Devin, was riding his bike to work like any other day when he was hit by a truck. By the grace of God he survived, but the injuries he suffered are severe and the road to recovery ahead of him is going to be long and incredibly difficult. Devin has multiple serious injuries including broken vertebrae, a fractured pelvis, a dislocated shoulder, broken tailbone, internal bruising and bleeding, and a broken leg. Seeing someone you love in this much pain is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Right now doctors are monitoring him very closely and doing everything they can to help stabilize him. Update: Devin has undergone surgery on his tailbone as well as surgery on his pubic bone, femur, and leg. Doctors also had to perform another CT scan after noticing fluid near his intestines, and we are currently waiting for results to make sure there are no additional complications. Every moment feels like holding our breath and praying for the best. This has been one of the most terrifying and heartbreaking experiences our family has ever faced. Right now all of our energy is focused on Devin’s surgeries, his healing, and getting him through this one step at a time. At the same time, the reality of medical bills and time away from work is starting to weigh heavily on us.
