Help Devi & Luis -- Fire Recovery

Wonderful Devi & Luis have been pillars of the Santa Cruz creative community, encouraging and bringing smiles to many people, sharing so much generosity. Now they need our help, since they recently moved to a cabin in Boulder Creek and lost everything in the CZU fire.
Unfortunately, the cabin was near Big Basin at the heart of the fire, and there was no insurance there. They didn't have much time to gather things before getting out. Devi's studio photography equipment was there, as well as all of their other important belongings.
This has been such a challenging time for our dear friends. You can imagine that the pandemic has been rough on their businesses, especially photography, which ground to a halt in March. Yet even without that income, Devi continued to rent her photo studio in hopes of returning. There have been unforeseen medical expenses as well– not easy for self-employed people.
We love Luis and Devi, and admire them as patient, loving, encouraging Tango instructors and dance-community builders; as generous volunteers and residents in the Tannery arts community; Devi as an outstanding, award-winning photographer; Luis as a local entrepreneur; and both of them as sincere, caring friends. We have seen their selfless generosity many times, and know that many will welcome the opportunity to give to them.
Your donation will help with replacement costs of everything, starting with clothing, kitchen items, furniture; rental costs as they get on their feet again; food; business expenses and photography equipment; and all the interim costs as they figure out their next moves.
They are thankful to be safe and staying with family in Spokane, WA. The current plan is to return when evacuation orders are lifted.
This gofundme has been started by me, Brenda Leach. I am their friend, tango student, and art collaborator, and I live in Boulder Creek. Our home was spared, but Devi and Luis were not so lucky. It's not easy for them to accept help but there is a time for giving and a time to receive. They are humbled and deeply appreciative of the outpouring of love they have already felt.
We invite you to join us in helping them with resources to create their futures as they grieve their recent losses. We are excited to help them feel the love our community has for them!
