Hi, my name is Steve Smith but most people call me "Deuce" and I need your help.
My best friend Cory texted my sister Mary in March of this year to tell her he had CANCER. They still don’t know what kind, but it is bad, really bad. In only 2 months he has gone from a guy with a cough to fighting for his life.
Cory is an extremely hardworking guy, skilled with his hands, and owns his own company building things all around our hometown of Seward, Nebraska. His wife Heather is a scientist and their son Sage attends Seward High School.
When someone gets cancer, you feel helpless. Believe me, I understand feeling helpless. It sucks. You see, in 1993, during the first week of college-some guy punched me leaving me unable to speak or move. But I can still think and type on my iPad by only moving my thumb. I’ve learned to focus on what I can do, not what I can’t.
Cory has always had my back. I met Cory at Seward Elementary School and I thought he was the coolest guy ever. We were inseparable through middle school and high school. We played football together and got in a little trouble. Nothing major and frankly, we got in a lot less trouble because...we had each other’s back. Well, 30 years later nothing has changed. Cory has always had my back.
Many of my friends at the time didn't know how to respond, and just went on with their lives. (I get it.) But not Cory. Cory, Heather, and Sage have been in my life the entire time. They mean the world to me. I even gave Cory and Sage my prized Camaro. But I'm not alone, Cory is just that type of guy. He would give the clothes off his back to help anyone.
And now Cory needs my help, and I need yours.
There is a lot we can do to help Cory. We are raising money for the long road ahead on this cancer journey that the Ruzicka family is suddenly faced with. Some of the things they could use the money for:
- Paying their mortgage and general living expenses while Cory is not working
- Additional medical consultation so we make the best and most informed treatment plan for Cory.
- Travel to additional medical care if needed.
- Therapy that isn't covered by insurance could help Cory's recovery.
- Home Healthcare Support
- Other expenses that come up in a crisis like this.
Please find it in your heart to help Cory, Heather, and Sage by donating here on this Go Fund Me site. 100% of what we raise will go to Cory and his family.
Thank you! We appreciate your generosity!
