On Friday, May 2nd, 2025, Senior Police Officer, Detective Raychel Willey of The New Orleans Police Department, was involved in a tragic life-altering incident. The incident involved Detective Willey on an off-duty detail at the Tchoupitoulas Walmart when she was alerted to a man needing medical aid. Detective Willey began rendering aid to the subject who ultimately dragged Detective Willey with the stolen vehicle he was in at the time of their encounter.

Detective Willey required surgery to her knee and countless visits to physical therapy and doctor’s visits.

Detective Willey has since had the knee surgery, but the recovery time will prevent her from returning to work for an extended period of time.

Detective Willey has been with the New Orleans Police Department for about 10 years and served in the Navy. Detective Willey has a large heart and it shows day in and day out.
