Single Mom & Kids Stuck Without Kitchen or Electricity After Contractor Abandoned Us

Story:

Hi, my name is Destiny and I’m a single mom of five kids. I never thought I’d be in a position to ask for help like this, but I’m truly desperate right now.

I had a friend who was staying here for free in exchange for remodeling my kitchen. He ripped my kitchen apart to remodel it, but then he left and moved to New Mexico without finishing anything. He also left tons of junk in a truck, and construction debris in my backyard and driveway… most of it wasn’t even from my house, it was from his other jobs. Now I keep getting fined for it, and I have no way to haul it off.

After he left, he hired a couple people to finish the work. One was an electrician who discovered a soaking wet outlet behind my washer and dryer. It was hanging out of the wall, smoking, and almost caught on fire. The moisture was coming in from outside, so there was mold in the wall. I had to rip the entire wall down for my kids’ safety.

Then, within a week, that electrician was fired for not being professional. Now I have:

• No electric upstairs (wires hanging out everywhere)

• No washer or dryer working

• No finished kitchen

• Five kids and me living in the living room with no real way to cook or do laundry

I’ve already spent every extra dollar I had on contractors who took advantage of me and left me worse off than I was before. All I want is to be able to hire a legit, licensed company I can trust to finish this work safely, so my kids can have their home back.

I called my homeowner’s insurance, but they said none of it is covered because it’s considered “pre-existing damage.” I feel completely defeated. I work so hard to care for my children and keep a roof over their heads, but right now it feels like we’re trapped in a nightmare.

I’m asking for help to:

✅ Finish the electrical work so my kids can sleep in their own rooms again

✅ Finish my kitchen

✅ Remove the junk and fines so I can avoid legal issues or city liens

✅ Hire a licensed company to do the job right and finally bring us peace
