Support Destinee's Fight Against Cancer

Hello everyone, my name is Nicole and I created this Go Fund Me for one of my beautiful and amazing best friends! We recently found out she had a lump and it ended up to be triple negative breast cancer. When she told me I couldn’t believe it at first and was so heart broken!

I have known Destinee for many years and she is the type of person who is always there for everyone. She’s worked hard to create a positive life for her and her daughter. She’s always taken huge pride in supporting her family as a single mom. I know she isn’t a fan of asking for help, but when things like this happen, we need all of the help, love and support that we can get. Not only will medical bills pile up, but she’s already dealing with the fact that she has cancer.

I’m reaching out for help to pay towards my medical insurance deductible due to my recent diagnosis. I was diagnosed with triple Negative Breast Cancer on March 15th, 2024. The next step after finding this out was to meet with my cancer care team on March 27th. This is where I was told the following and was given my care plan:

I will continue my treatment plan at Cone Health Cancer Center in Greensboro, NC.

My treatment plan consists of – First 12 weeks of Chemo, after that surgery, and lastly radiation. The time to complete treatment will most likely be 1 1/2 to 2 years. I have completed 2 Chemo injections so far. My health is doing okay for now. Chemo is currently once a week.

 

I do try to plan for my medical expenses. However, they have never been so much and this was definitely unexpected. I will need to use all of my PTO for my medical appointments (current hours left are 88). It will not be enough to cover all of my future visits. There will be days I will have to take unpaid leave and might have to get on short-term disability depending on how things go.

I do have health coverage through my employer and so far I have already paid $2,089. My out-of-pocket max is $8,000 annually.

I’m reaching out for some help from family and friends so I don't end up with such a huge debt. It’s scary to think that you will get rid of the cancer, but have a hard time financially for years to come. If there is any way you and your family could spare a few dollars to donate to help pay for medical bills it would truly be apricated.

I also have a 17-year-old daughter and I would give anything not to have to change her life at this time. I have been her only parent for 17 years. She is doing so well academically (AVID), socially, and is in sports year-round.

It's so hard to ask for this type of help. It would really make my cancer journey easier to deal with so I can focus on getting rid of this stupid cancer!
