We adopted Desmond at 12 weeks old. He was found as a stray and turned out to be the most affectionate little boy. He's about six months old now, and a couple of weeks ago, he was full of energy and life — playing with his many toys, hunting bugs, and waking us up in the morning with purrs and lots of cuddles. It was like all of his energy vanished overnight. He became lethargic and disinterested in activity or engagement with us. He developed a high persistent fever, and his abdomen began to swell with fluid. After many tests, his veterinarian suspected FIP — a deadly infection that only a small percentage of young cats face. There is a cure available, but treatment is costly. We are asking for assistance in helping Desmond beat FIP. This process involves ~6 months of treatment and observation. We have a long road ahead of us with many trips to the vet. Any help is appreciated.

Why is treatment so expensive & where is your donation going?
In addition to the cost of his medication, which is not cheap to begin with, Desi will need a series of lab tests throughout the initial 12 weeks of treatment and during his observation period for 12 weeks following. That means it will take 6 months for him to be cured of this disease, with trips to the vet for testing scheduled every 30 days. To give you an idea, just getting him tested and diagnosed initially left us with a bill of about $800.
We truly appreciate any contribution as it will help us keep Desmond on the road to recovery.
