Today, I come to you with an urgent plea to stand with a young soul in the fight of his life.

Desmond Koni, a Form 4 student at Government Technical High School Nkwen in Bamenda, Cameroon, has been diagnosed with blood cancer. At just 17 years old, Desmond’s dreams of becoming a skilled tradesman in motor mechanics have been thrown into uncertainty.

Desmond lost his father at an early age and has been lovingly raised by his single mother and uncle, both doing everything they can to support him. Despite the hardships, Desmond has always shown determination, resilience, and hope for a brighter future.

Just weeks ago, he started feeling unusually weak. Routine medical checks turned into something no family wants to face, doctors found traces of cancer cells. On July 10, 2025, a hematologist at the General Hospital in Douala confirmed the devastating diagnosis: blood cancer.

Desmond urgently needs advanced treatment abroad, something that sadly cannot be provided in Cameroon. But the cost of medical evacuation and care overseas is far beyond what his family can bear.
