Help Desiree Fight Her Battle At Home -Care Needed

A sincere thank you to all that have supported Desiree & her husband Eddie through this battle over the past few years. For those of you who may not know the start of this struggle, it began in May 2018 when Desiree suddenly suffered a seizure at work. A large growth was found & later determined to be Glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Over the past few years, Desiree has had many challenges between her chemo & radiation treatments as well as the ongoing fears of the tumors returning. Many of you were there to help Desiree & Eddie when they needed it most, at a time when they were in jeopardy of loosing their home while fighting this horrific battle.  Now, Desiree & Eddie are facing a new struggle & it is my hope that all of you will once again be their angels & support them any way you can. 

In May of 2020 Desiree suffered a seizure at home & it was discovered that a tumor started to grow again in the same area almost 2 years to the day that they had initially removed the growth. She went back on the Chemo meds that had worked great for her the first time. Some time in June, her medical team realized the chemo wasnt working as it had originally did,  so she was put on a new drug receiving infusions twice a week. The new drug stopped the tumor growth & things were stabilized. On 12/31/20, Des suffered another seizure at home. Thankfully her husband was at home & knew what to do. Sadly the seizure caused Desiree to loose strength on her right side. This has made it hard if not impossible for her to walk, stand or dress unassisted. It also affected her thoughts & speech. Fortunately Eds mom Carol offered to stay with them for a month which was a tremendous help. Desiree started a new Chemo drug this month in hopes of stopping this terrible disease from advancing any further. She has good days & bad. Her husband Ed has used what was left of his FMLA & PTO time to care for her and getting help from SSD & Medicaid is taking more time than you would expect. At this point Desiree cannot be left home alone and the reality of needing private long term care is becoming more apparent. This is where I am asking for all of you to help however you can. I have known Desiree for over 30 years & my most recent visit was just a glimpse of what both Desiree & Ed are going through, it is just heartbreaking.  It also shows the devotion this husband & wife have for one another in sickness & in health. We are all dealing with effects of Covid, but imagine adding this to it. We are hoping to raise funds to help Desiree & Eddie continue this battle from the comforts of their home. We are seeking to get in home care for Desiree so she can remain safe & comfortable in her home while battling brain cancer.
