Aloha!

We’re Brittany and Christina, and we’re raising funds for our dear friend Desirée and David, who were displaced by the recent flooding in Waialua on Oahu's North Shore on March 20, 2026. Brittany is helping from afar on the mainland, and Christina is on Oahu helping Desirée and David by welcoming them into her home while they're displaced.

David woke Desirée up in the middle of the night to water coming in from under the walls. They had to evacuate their Waialua apartment immediately. The photos and the videos (links at the top) were what they were able to capture after the water began to recede.

They are expecting their first child in September, which adds an extra element of stress and concern regarding safety, mold, and contamination.

They're currently staying with Christina in town while they wait to return home, which is about an hour away from where they reside. While they're incredibly grateful to have a safe place to stay, being displaced isn't free. They anticipate it will take one to two months to return, and there's a possibility they'll need to find a new home.

Some of their belongings, most of their furniture, and their vehicle were damaged in the flood. The costs of starting over are adding up fast, especially in Hawaii. Unfortunately, Desirée's renter's insurance does not include flood coverage, so they are unable to recover losses through insurance.

They’re rebuilding from what feels like scratch, needing to replace not just everyday items but a fridge and pantry's worth of food, basic toiletries, and the home furnishings that would become their growing family's home.

This fundraiser will help cover:
  • Replacing and repairing damaged and lost belongings, furniture, and their vehicle
  • Daily living expenses during displacement
  • A financial cushion for when they're finally able to return home
Desirée is one of the most resilient and generous people we know. She would never ask for help herself, which is exactly why we’re doing it for her.

Any contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference. If you can't give, sharing this page goes a long way. Desirée and David are deeply grateful, as are we.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support!
