My dear friend Desert needs our help.
As you may have heard in recent news, catastrophic flooding has swept through western Washington, completely flooding their home. Thankfully they have insurance and flood relief will begin once the waters recede. But thousands of dollars in personal items, her ice cream business equipment, and months worth of perishable foods are not insured. Their community is also affected by indefinite power outages, and road washouts that will greatly impact the winter tourism Desert relies on for income. They will also need to find short term housing for themselves and their animals as they navigate the long road to recovery. Doing so and staying warm without power as temperatures drop and snow storms move in will be another high cost.
I first met Desert about 14 years ago at Terrapin Hill Farm in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. She has always been an incredibly kind and caring person to everyone around her.
I moved to WA in the summer of 2022 and had no idea that Desert was living just a little over an hour away from me. It made me so happy to have a friend from back home, so close. I’ve seen her give so much of herself to others, and now she and her partner Brier need our help more than ever.
Desert and Brier recently bought their forever home in Skykomish, WA, where they live with their beloved dogs and four cats. They’ve been working hard to fix up their new place and make it their own.
If you are able, I kindly ask if you could donate whatever you comfortably can. Even if it is a small amount, anything can help during this incredibly challenging time.
With Desert’s permission, I created this fundraiser to support them, even though her first thought was that others might need help more. Your support, no matter the amount, will make a real difference.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support. ❤️
