Help Des and Debbie rebuild their home

My name is Miriam. On Feb 28 this year, my parents Des and Debbie Sheridan were among those devastated by the severe flooding that hit the Northern Rivers.

Like so many others in Lismore, they did everything possible to prepare. They packed up everything that was underneath their home and moved themselves, their dog Willa and their cars to higher ground to wait out the water. What they returned to was unimaginable loss.

They have lived in their home in South Lismore for 20+ years and have dealt with numerous floods over the years. But the water level of this flood surpassed anything the town had seen before. Almost everything they own is lying in a soggy, stinking pile on the nature strip.

Along with all their essentials (washing machine, beds, couches, tables, chairs, clothes, electronics, stove, fridge - the whole kitchen in fact, and most of the flooring) they have also lost almost everything of sentimentality, and the majority of their music gear.

So what is needed now is, simply put, everything. Thanks to the incredible kindness of the Lismore community we have managed to get a good start on the cleanup and secure them a caravan to stay in for the next 6 months while they work on making their home liveable. But there is a huge job ahead of them, and financing it will be difficult. The supermarket Des works in was also destroyed, and his future income is unclear. Also, there’s no insurance cover for this.

I would love to be able to gather some funds for Deb and Des to get this job underway. The exact cost of this is unclear, but for a start they need a functioning kitchen and bathroom and a place to sleep.

Any donation of any size would be so greatly appreciated. This money is going directly to them and will be put toward the costs of their recovery from this disaster.
