This is Stephanie, a coworker, and friend of Derrick's. I am writing with an update on Derrick's condition and to reset his fundraising goal.
Following Derrick's treatment in early 2021, he was able to join our team. Unfortunately, in September, he received news that the cancer has continued to spread.
Derrick is not a candidate for a transplant or resection and all direct intervention (Y-90 and TASE) options have been tried.
Though stage IV HCC Liver Cancer is incurable, Immunotherapy will begin in hopes to extend Derrick's life and its quality.
He will have the following treatment schedule:
-One-time IV Infusion of Tremelimumab
-Every four weeks IV Infusion of Durvalumab
Derrick is currently facing some terrible symptoms but hopes his medical team can get those under control. Derrick will continue to work with us as long as he is able, but we would like to raise some funds for him to utilize once he is unable to work, or for anything that may be helpful for him!
Anything you can contribute is greatly appreciated.
Below is Derrick's original story:
Hi, my name is Derrick and I am fundraising to help myself financially through my second round of cancer treatment. I was diagnosed with stage IV HCC Liver Cancer in July 0f 2021. My treatment involves the use of Y-90 Iridium radiation along with embolization of the arteries feeding the tumor.
During my treatment, work is not possible for around two months. I was able to get through my first round of treatment by surviving on my life savings and the assistance of social services. Unfortunately, those funds are nearly used up. I am concerned about my ability to survive financially for the duration of my second round of treatment.
My needs are not to cover medical costs. Those are all covered by insurance. I need assistance with the cost of day-to-day living.
I hope to begin treatment in January 2022 and hope to be able to work again in March 2022.
Anything, that you can donate to help me will be greatly appreciated.
