Derrick Who Was Shot Multiple Times, Help Him Heal & Rebuild
Donation protected
My name is Anthony Colón and I am a 20+ yr active duty FMF Corpsman who deployed in support of OEF at the height of the war in 2010-11 and saw many horrible things, but nothing would have prepared me for the call I received from my sister on the early afternoon of Dec 6, 2024. My younger brother Derrick had become a victim of senseless gun violence. While walking home for lunch while on break from the barbershop, his place of work, he was randomly shot at and was struck by bullets hitting him 12 times resulting in numerous serious injuries to his right shoulder/arm, his hand, under his arm on right his side, abdomen, leg, foot and suffering multiple fractures and lacerations. Still bullet fragments were left buried in various spots throughout his body to prevent further injury. A devastating and life-altering attack that left him fighting for his life. The doctors said he was within millimeters of losing his life. He sustained so many gun shot wound injuries that even his surgeons don’t know how he survived the attack. Despite the odds and by the Grace of God, he survived. His road to recovery will be a long and challenging one.
As a skilled barber, he has spent years providing for his loved ones and bringing smiles to those in the community. Unfortunately, the permanent injuries to his right shoulder, right arm and right hand have compromised his ability to work and earn a living doing what he loves as a barber. According to the surgeons he may not be able to use his right hand again. They aren't even sure how much of the hand they will be able to save.
He is the primary provider of his household. Now, with mounting hospital bills, multiple surgeries, and an extended period of rehabilitation ahead, our family will be struggling to make ends meet.
Anyone who knows Derrick knows he is a die hard Niner Fan. More will tell you about his kind heart and generous spirit. He’s the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need, and the entire neighborhood can attest to the type of person that he’s is. No matter what he is always willing to lend a helping hand.
We are humbly asking for your support to help my brother heal, cover medical expenses, and ensure his family is cared for during this unimaginable time. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference. If you can’t donate, sharing his story and keeping him in your prayers means the world to us.
Thank you for standing with us and continue to keep him in your prayers.
THANK YOU TO THE OSCEOLA COUNTY SHERRIF'S DEPT AND FIRST RESPONDERS WHO CAUGHT THE SHOOTER AND HELPED SAVE MY BROTHER'S LIFE.
With gratitude, Anthony, Gladys and family
