Help Derrick Get His Chairs
Donation protected
Hello Family and Friends,
Our brother, Derrick Sherrod, has been a massive stroke victim for 16 years. He was paralyzed on the right side of his body from head to toe. Lying in his hospital bed for months as he went through rehabilitation caused some fear of him lying in a bed. We are not sure why because he has never been able to communicate the reason to us. For years he sat in a chair to sleep at night, which over a course of time caused him to develop Chronic Lymphedema in his paralyzed leg. Derrick now gets around in his motorized chair, and he lives his entire day in that motorized chair, he sleeps in that motorized chair. This lifestyle is steadily decreasing his quality of life. Recently his doctor made him agree that he would lay down in a bed at night because he had to start relieving the leg of the pressure it has endured, or he may be facing the possibility of losing that leg. Knowing how he feels about beds, we have been searching for one that would be inviting and encourage him to lay down.
The other day he and his caregiver saw a 3-in-1 sleep chair recliner that was the answer to his dreams. He is elated and has asked our family to help him purchase this chair. This chair will help to relieve him in more ways than a standard home hospital bed can offer - some being eliminating inflammation, improving circulation, heating and massaging features, multiple position features, and lift to standing ability. And the beauty of it all is that it is a chair, and not a bed that his mind has been rejecting since he left rehabilitation some 14 years ago.
We as a family would like to secure this chair for him; however, our funds are limited, and the company does not accept insurance. We would also like to include a bath chair for Derrick, that would allow him better access to having a shower. Currently, he is unable to get in his shower safely due to his limited mobility.
We are asking our extended family and our friends, neighbors, and those of you who know and care about Derrick to graciously help us obtain these two items for him, which will most definitely improve his quality of life. And for that we extend our heart felt thanks for whatever you can do to support us in this venture.
Sincerely,
The Sherrod Family
