Help Derp Recover: Support for Urgent Vet Care
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
In early April, my partner Freddy and I welcomed the most adorable six-month-old kitten into our home. From the moment we met him, his goofy, lovable personality made it easy to give him a name—Derp. He was healthy, playful, and full of that classic kitten curiosity.
We knew we'd eventually need to get him pet insurance, but decided to hold off for a little while as we focused on Freddy’s music career—he’s about to go on tour for the first time, and I've been managing both his merchandise and concert visuals.
Unfortunately, Derp’s health took a sudden and frightening turn this month. Practically overnight, he lost interest in playing, his toys, and even getting out of bed. He became extremely lethargic and picky with food. At first, we hoped it was just a reaction to the diet change we were introducing, but things only got worse.
Later that week, I noticed Derp hadn’t eaten and was making repeated, unproductive trips to the litter box. He was straining, but nothing came out—just a bit of mucus. Alarmed, we rushed him to a local veterinary urgent care that same day.
The vet diagnosed him with a fever, dehydration, and borderline mild hepatomegaly (enlarged liver). While they couldn’t confirm a blockage or foreign body, it was clear something was wrong in his digestive tract. They recommended hospitalization—but without insurance, the cost was simply beyond our reach.
Instead, we opted for outpatient care, which was still a significant financial burden (we've included the vet bill in the photos for transparency).
It’s now been two days since his visit. Thankfully, Derp has regained some energy and is eating and drinking again—but he still hasn’t been able to pass stool. We’re closely monitoring him and hoping to avoid another urgent care visit. If he worsens or needs more intensive treatment, we may need to raise the fundraising goal accordingly.
We’re doing everything we can for our little guy, but we could really use your help. Any contribution—big or small—would mean the world to us and to Derp. He's brought so much joy into our lives and brightens every day. We just want to give him the care and support he deserves.
Thank you for reading, supporting, and caring ❤
