With a heavy heart, I write this story. Ashley, a dear friend, a mother, and a wife, lost her husband early yesterday in a tragic accident. Derek, at the young age of 35, leaves two sons and a daughter. A wife who adored him with every ounce of her being, and family & friends that were proud of the man he became. He was loved by all, his smile was infectious, and he had a goofy charisma that would make anybody laugh.

She embarks on the biggest change of her life by becoming a single mother. Times will be hard, but she is strong and grateful for the circle of people that surround her.

The family is understandably shocked by this loss and unfortunately not prepared for all that is happening at this time. Losing a loved one is always difficult, but coping with a sudden loss adds a different element to the grieving process. It doesn’t follow a pattern, and there’s often a lack of closure. There are also added financial stressors, such as the loss of a spouse’s income to pay for household expenses.

My name is Carlee Cross, and I am Derek's cousin. I am helping collect these funds for Ashley and will make sure 100% of everything donated goes directly to her. The funds will be used to help Ashley with the day-to-day expenses that come up as she navigates being a single-income household, and helping support her and her two sons.
