In June of 2022, Derek was diagnosed with Stage IV Colorectal Cancer. In September of 2022 we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and we would like a chance to have 25 more years together!
Derek has always been a dynamic and amazingly upbeat person who believes in making everyone around him feel better by helping them to smile or laugh or just feel good about themselves.
He continues to do this even during his cancer treatments. He has gone through 9 rounds of intense chemotherapy and had emergency surgery to put in a temporary colostomy.
he is about to embark on a next tough phase. He will be undergoing daily chemo radiation treatments for about 7 weeks to try and shrink the primary tumor and then he will move towards having surgery. The 9 rounds of chemo did what they were supposed to do but it’s time for the more intense stage.
He is choosing to not just survive this journey but thrive through it and move forward on a mission to help others get through the process but before he can do that we need some help.
There are no local agencies in our rural remote area that can help as they are out of funding, so we are asking for help with all of the expenses that come with this process so we may pay it forward down the road.
Every little bit helps to pay for fuel, food, supplies, lodging, medicine and a myriad of other expenses that come with a lengthy journey like this one.
To add to the difficulties, our employment normally provides for not only a basic income but our housing. That will not be available to us for the next several months and we will also have to pay for temporary housing expenses where the chemo-radiation treatments will be taking place.
He would never ever willingly ask for this kind of help but in order to keep his progress going we can’t do it on our own.
If you can’t help, maybe someone in your network can or maybe you know of a company or business that can and of course all the prayers and healing energy and positive thoughts we can get mean so much.
We also have a PayPal fund but most people don’t use that and we are happy to provide Zelle details or our personal address.
Thank you and please share this with as many people as possible. Any funds we wind up not needing will be donated to the Eastern Sierra Cancer Alliance or to City of Hope in Lancaster, California where he is receiving his treatments.
