Help Derek Secure His Future at Morehouse College

Greetings everyone, my name is Derek Pearson, and I am an 18-year-old first-generation college student standing at one of the most important moments of my life. (Deposit is due January 15th.)

I was recently admitted to Morehouse College, an institution that has represented excellence, leadership, and possibility to me for as long as I can remember.

Growing up, seeing Black men in suits walking across Morehouse’s campus showed me what was possible. It showed me purpose, discipline, and ambition. From that moment on, I knew I wanted to become one of them. Receiving my acceptance letter felt like years of hard work finally paying off.

Beyond academics, I am deeply involved in my community and committed to fighting economic disparity. Through service and leadership, I have seen firsthand how financial inequality limits opportunity, and those experiences have shaped both my values and my goals. At Morehouse, I plan to major in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, with a double major in Economics, so I can gain the tools needed to create meaningful economic impact and help close opportunity gaps in underserved communities.

To officially secure my place in the incoming class, I must submit a $600 enrollment deposit. This deposit is required to hold my seat, maintain housing eligibility, and keep me eligible for additional scholarships that can significantly reduce the cost of attendance.

My family believes in my dreams, but like many families, finances are complicated. We are doing everything we can, yet this one payment has become a barrier between me and the future I have worked so hard to build.

I am actively applying for scholarships and appealing my financial aid, but without this deposit, these opportunities close.

I am not asking for a handout. I am asking for a chance.
A chance to continue pursuing an education rooted in leadership and service.
A chance to attend a college that has shaped generations of leaders.
A chance to build a future where I can give back far more than I receive.

Every contribution, no matter the size, brings me one step closer to turning a lifelong dream into reality.

Thank you for reading, supporting, and believing in me.
