Help Derek Rebuild After Tool Theft

Two weeks ago, my brother Derek experienced a devastating loss. While working on a job site, someone stole all of his tools—in broad daylight. He stepped away briefly to check on his partner, and in that short window, someone took everything. Despite his efforts to gather security footage from nearby homes, there’s no video evidence, and without it, the police are unable to move forward with the investigation.

Derek also reached out to his insurance company, but because he doesn't have receipts for many of his tools—some of which he’s collected over a 15+ year career—they’re only offering a fraction of their value, devaluing the loss by 60%. Like many tradespeople, keeping receipts wasn’t a priority when he was building his toolkit over the years, especially before launching his own company.

Derek recently took a brave step and started his own renovation business: McBros Reno’s. He has worked incredibly hard to build something for himself and for his son, and this setback is threatening everything he’s worked toward.

Derek is also a single dad. His son, Bryson, lives with a syndrome that makes him vulnerable to bacterial infections, often requiring hospitalization. Derek handles fatherhood and these challenges with grace, always putting Bryson first—even if it means missed work or sleepless nights.
