Hey all,

My name is David Bosley, and I’m reaching out to you today with a heavy heart. I have started a Go Fund Me campaign for one of our own, Derek Peck, who has unfortunately fallen victim to a devastating financial scam.

Anyone who knows Derek can attest to what an incredibly devoted father he is to his four children. He’s the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back if you needed it. He has worked tirelessly for everything he has and has never asked for anything in return from anyone. So, it was particularly difficult for him to share what happened something that took a lot of courage.

As I listened to Derek recount the unfortunate events of the past few weeks, where he lost over $16,000 due to this scam right before the holidays, I could see the weight of this burden on his shoulders. The scammers took everything from him at such a vulnerable time. Derek’s young family includes his wife Jessica and their children: 6-year-old Camila, 2-year-old Avery, and beautiful 1-year-old twins Aubree and Haylee.

Derek has been with us at the City of El Cajon as a Facilities Technician since last September. Recently, he was contacted by his bank's fraud department regarding suspicious transactions that required immediate action. In a panic and desperate attempt to protect his family’s finances, he followed their instructions without realizing he was being scammed.

He immediately realized what happened and reached out to his bank for help, but it was too late. Unsure of what to do next he asked for help from the ECMEA, when he stopped me I saw not only fear but immense pain in his eyes not for himself but for his young family. When I offered to share his story and seek help on his behalf, Derek hesitated and said, “Why me? Why would anyone help me? There are so many others that could use help; I couldn’t ask this of anyone.”

I assured him that there are good people out there who care deeply about him and now we have an opportunity to show him just how much we care as a community.
