At 12.30am on Sept 17th, Derek Hynd and his son Lochlan lost their home in a sudden fire at his property in NSW.
Thankfully no one has been injured, but they have lost almost everything to the fire, including a close friends dog. A 40 year collection of writings, memorabilia, and personal surfboards including Derek's famed Litmus board have been destroyed. Derek lives simply and is reflecting on how little he really needs despite this devastating loss to his family and the general archives of international surfing.
His property and home was not insured. For those of you who know Derek, we all know he does not like asking for anything, but right now he needs basic help from his friends and the surf community. Urgently required is a water tank, an old cleaned computer. A decent lightweight wheelchair for a close friend, who also lost the everything during the fire on Monday night. Thereafter, simple resources is all that is required.
Derek has given many of us so much, in so many ways throughout his life, what a beautiful way to give back and help rebuild.
