Help Derek Enhance Learning at the Juvenile Detention Center
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Derek and this is my fourth year teaching special education. Currently, I teach at a Juvenile Detention Center. We service students in grades 5-12. This creates a uniqueness in which we approach our students' educational needs.
The funds will be used for the following:
- indoor/outdoor PE equipment
-various small candy that we use to incentivize academic success
- meeting unique academic needs
- notebooks, pencils, folders, highlighters
- art supplies
- evidence based life skills and transition planning curriculum
Evidence-based teaching, combined with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), creates an effective learning environment. PBIS promotes positive behavior through rewards, such as praise or tokens, which reinforce good conduct and foster engagement. When aligned with research-backed teaching strategies, this approach supports both academic and behavioral growth.
In physical education and rehabilitation, video games are increasingly used to motivate and engage. Movement-based games encourage physical activity, while rehabilitation-focused games offer repetitive tasks that aid recovery. The fun, interactive nature of games helps boost participation and enhances the effectiveness of physical and therapeutic programs.
