My name is James “JD” Cooper. I have been a mounted officer since 2003 and this is my first GoFundMe.
To say that “Ace” stood out in a crowd is an understatement. As you can see, his prominent spots and personality made him stand out in a herd. Ace, whose registered name was PJA Eclats Graffiti, was a nine year old registered Appaloosa and a prominent member of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Mounted Patrol. The horses in this unit are personally owned horses used by Deputies to work their assignments. Since 2017 Ace could be seen at local parades, department appearances, race days at Laguna Seca, the Sea Otter Classic and he was a huge hit with the kids at Farm Day events. Those who have seen mounted officers and deputies interact with children know how they use these animals to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.
Sadly, on February 8th 2023, Ace suffered a broken leg and the veterinarian was unable to save him.
Although a new horse will not fill the void in Deputy Lilga’s heart, I am seeking to raise funds to help her find a new horse to continue her work on the mounted unit.
