Dennis, my father-in-law, is facing one of the toughest battles of his life. He has been diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis, and his condition has progressed more quickly than anyone expected. The treatment for his liver, while necessary, has unfortunately caused significant damage to his kidneys. Now, Dennis is in urgent need of both a liver and kidney transplant. The journey to recovery is long and challenging, and he is working closely with the transplant team at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, which is three hours away from home. He has to travel there several times a month for appointments, in addition to his local medical visits.

While Dennis’s insurance covers most of the major medical expenses, the out-of-pocket costs are adding up quickly. Co-pays, travel expenses, hotel stays, and upfront payments for the transplants are significant. On top of these challenges, Dennis has developed cataracts in both eyes, which have affected his vision and made it impossible for him to drive.
