My name is Denise, and I’m reaching out because my family and I are facing a crisis. Just three months ago, we moved to Maryland to get a fresh start after experiencing homelessness. Thanks to the kindness of some good friends, we were able to find a home and begin rebuilding our lives. Unfortunately, in November, our car was totaled, and we could no longer afford the rental we had. This meant my husband lost his delivery job, which was our main source of income. I am disabled and currently only able to earn money from a commission-based job, while my disability benefits are still pending. With our income drastically reduced, we are now at risk of becoming homeless again, and it’s absolutely terrifying. If we can’t pay our rent by the 17th, our landlord will file for eviction, and we are terrified of being separated or left without a place to go. Local shelters often do not accept families, which means we could be separated during this incredibly difficult time.
The money we receive will go directly toward paying our rent so we can keep our home. Any additional support will help us get a car, allowing my husband to return to work and provide for our family until he can find something more stable. We also need help covering our internet and cell phone bills, which are essential for searching for jobs, scheduling interviews, and staying in touch with our son’s school—especially since he has special needs and requires extra support.
It is very difficult for me to ask for help from strangers, but we have no other option left. My family and I do not take your generosity for granted. Your kindness and willingness to help will be the reason we get to stay together and, hopefully, celebrate Christmas in the home we love. Thank you for considering supporting us during this urgent and challenging time.
