A fire in Denise’s apartment building forced her from her home. While her apartment was not destroyed by flames, it suffered significant smoke and odour contamination, and many of her belongings could not be salvaged.

Denise was also exposed to dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, requiring hospital treatment and oxygen.

For years, Denise has worked as a support worker caring for some of the most vulnerable people in our community, including individuals living with physical and developmental disabilities. She has spent much of her working life helping others maintain their independence and quality of life. Right now, Denise is the one who needs some help.

The timing could not have been worse. Denise was already on medical leave when the fire occurred and had recently been accepted into college for September, where she plans to train for a new career and work toward a more secure future.

Then, just days after the fire, Denise’s e-bike was stolen. It was her only means of transportation.

Our most urgent priority is helping Denise secure safe, stable housing and making sure this devastating setback does not take away the future she has been working toward.

Funds raised will help Denise:
• Secure housing and cover moving costs
• Set up utilities and other necessities
• Replace essential belongings, furniture and household items
• Address the loss of her only transportation
• Get settled and stable enough to begin college in September

Denise does not have family she can turn to for this kind of support, so we are asking our community to help provide the safety net she needs right now.

If you are able to donate, every contribution, no matter the amount, will help Denise move closer to having a home again. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing her story.

Thank you to everyone who has already donated, shared, reached out or offered support. Your kindness and generosity are deeply appreciated.
