Help Denise Fight Autoimmune Hepatitis

Donation protected
Hello everyone!

Recently my Mother Denise was diagnosed with Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH) and is now awaiting a liver transplant at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK.

The fact that this all came on so quickly is what has shocked all of us. Unaware of knowing how long this could have been going on silently is unknown, but as of about two months ago it started with her belly being much bigger than normal due to being filled with fluid. At this point we knew getting answers were of utmost importance in moving forward. First stop made was to McAlester Regional Health Center where she had 6 liters of fluid altogether drained from her belly and told that her diagnosis was Cirrhosis of the liver. Fast forward to a month beyond, my Mother's energy had been super low, her skin had become jaundiced, fluid was starting to build back up within her belly and was once again drained. This time the doctors had found out more about her condition and were able to tell her why her liver is in the state it is beyond the Cirrhosis, being Autoimmune Hepatitis (AIH). Soon after finding this out, she was advised she would be on her way to Oklahoma City where she would be meeting with liver specialist and be placed on a transplant list. As of right now, she is doing well. Her tests are coming back great, her MELD score is remaining great, and is on her way to getting a transplant very soon. Could be anytime at this point and for that, my Mother, myself, and our whole family is ever so grateful!

I, as Denise's daughter will be her sole care taker along with my Aunt Lisa after her transplant. My Mother will need 2 people there for her 24/7 and we will be assuming that responsibility. Depending on how my Mother heals up, we could be in Oklahoma City for up to 6 months or less. We live in McAlester, OK and due to the distance between, we won't be able to go back home because of doctor's orders that she stays within 60 miles. My Mother means everything to me and is my only remaining parent. 3 years ago on May 20th, I lost my Dad to a stroke. He was a member of the U.S. Army and retired with 27 years. To say the least, this recent news surrounding my Mother is scary, but none the less so far things have been looking up and I'm just taking it one day at a time and look forward to a successful transplant for my Mother.

Donations will be put towards medical expenses, travel, lodging, and basic needs for the duration of her recovery. Every little bit helps and I thank you in advance. I also thank you for taking the time to read this story.

Thank You,
Bowen Family
