Our dear friend Denis had a sudden and catastrophic hemorrhagic stroke (a postop note from a neurosurgeon). The severity of it is best described by Dr. Lewis: “another 20 minutes and he wouldn’t be saved”. Him being alive is a miracle.

Denis is one of the healthiest 34 years old guys you could find. Before this tragedy happened, he didn’t have any medical issues: no hypertension, no family history of strokes. He was full of dreams and ambition; he just found a new job being a software manager. And now he has to learn to speak again. Imagine that 95% of your dictionary was excavated by the surgeon. He has to learn how to walk again; how to use his right arm.

His rehabilitation must include physical, speech, and occupational therapy - likely next 12 months.

Denis has medical insurance, but he was the main provider in their family. So now Irina has to balance her work in the Pilates studio and helping Denis to recover. 

Denis and Irina are first-generation immigrants - their parents are still abroad - not sure even if they can get visas. The only support they have now is from the kindness of friends and goodwill of strangers.
