My name is Denesha Russell currently living in New Jersey. I grew up in the fishing village of Whitehouse, Westmoreland.

Hurricane Melissa slammed into our community, tearing down all board houses, ripping zinc roofs and shingle roofs alike from every house. The damage is stark: my parents’ home is half‑torn, my brother’s roof is completely gone, and many of our neighbors have lost everything they owned.

Even though I now live in the US, I feel the responsibility of being the sole breadwinner for my mom, dad, and my sister who is currently in medical school. I’m doing everything I can from afar—sending what I can, and staying connected with the people who raised me. The cost of rebuilding, replacing essential items, and providing food and clean water not just for my parents and siblings but also other family members and friends, far exceeds what I can manage alone.

That’s why I’ve created this fundraiser. Your generosity will directly help:

- *Rebuild the damaged homes* – securing roofs and repairing walls so families can have a safe place to return to.

- *Provide food, water, and basic necessities* – ensuring that no one goes hungry or without clean drinking water while we recover.

- *Ship barrels of essential supplies* – clothing, blankets, hygiene kits, and other items that were swept away by the storm.

I’m not just looking out for my own family; I’ve always been the one friends and other relatives turn to when they need a hand. This time I’m asking for a little help so I can keep giving to those who matter most.
