Help Dempsey #WalkAgain

Update 1/8/2022

We want to thank everyone that has viewed, commented, and donated to Dempsey's fund from the bottom of our hearts. Thanks to your financial contributions we were able to get full X-rays of Dempsey's legs, hips, shoulder joints, and spine. The vets confirmed that his arthritis has progressed significantly. Unfortunately, since the day they administered the anesthesia for the X-Ray his condition has deteriorated even further. He has been having bouts of pain and has barely been able to move his hind legs. It was so bad the day before his teeth were chattering, and we were helpless. All we could do was hold him, tell him that we loved him, and give him another pain pill. Dempsey is also dealing with potential kidney failure but for that, we are able to introduce natural antitoxins and diet changes to slow down the progression. Right now, controlling his pain is the priority.

My sister-in-law is a veterinary doctor specializing in orthopedic surgery. We've been forwarding all correspondence with regards to the vet’s findings and their recommendations for a second opinion and guidance to her. Based on the currently completed blood work, X-ray testing, and the vet's findings, she advised us that further testing will not help and that trying to control the pain is the way forward for us. She suggested that we make Dempsey as comfortable as possible, monitor the frequency and duration of the shakes, and medicate him accordingly. We have been recommended to take Dempsey to the Canine Rehabilitation Center in Walnut Creek for water therapy and acupuncture treatments to help with pain relief.

We want to request your help in making this possible. Please help us; any amount, no matter how big or small, will help. Dempsey is family to us, and we are extremely grateful for the unconditional love and happiness he has given us. When bad days are more frequent than good days then it would be time to say goodbye to our beloved boy. But until then, we hope we can give Dempsey at least some relief and cherish whatever time we have left with him.

Thank you again for your love, kindness, and support for Rodney, myself, and above all our boy, Dempsey.

Michael

------------------------

We rescued Dempsey 3 1/2 years ago after my sister had passed away and I couldn't be there to say goodbye to her due to immigration-related restrictions. When we rescued him he had arthritis and past trauma and wasn't able to play with the other dogs. But his eyes were full of love — they radiated beautiful energy that reminded us of those rare people we come across in life that take the hardships, the pain, and the absurdity of life and convert them into kindness, love, and beauty. He stopped people in the street constantly because of his eyes, his demeanor, and his very slow walk. It was hard not to fall in love with him and my partner and I felt an instant connection with him.

Of late, his arthritis has been especially bad. It has taken a big toll on his hind legs — he is barely able to move them. We have been advised to see a neurologist immediately and get a CT scan. But more importantly, his recent blood work has revealed signs of Kidney Failure and Disease. The doctors said it has been detected early and that they can work with it, but he needs immediate attention and help.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts and working multiple shifts on DoorDash every day, we are unable to afford the vet fees, and we want to humbly request for your help. Any donation, no matter how big or small will help Michael and I take care of him in his hour of need. Dempsey means the world to us; he saved me when I had lost hope and he has given us more than we could have hoped for. Please help us save Dempsey.

Rodney
