Hello friends and family,

On September 18th, our sweetest girl Delta very suddenly and out of the blue, lost mobility in her hind legs, going completely limp. Luckily, Lauren was working from home and was able to rush her to the vet where they did a full blood panel, checked her vitals, and performed a neurological assessment. They determined that she likely has one of two things: fibrocartilaginous embolism (FCE) or a ruptured disc. FCE can typically resolve on its own with time, therapy, rest, etc., and she likely would not need surgery. However, a ruptured disc would very likely require surgery.

Based on her symptoms, our vet was leaning toward FCE but could not give a concrete diagnosis. Our vet suggested we transfer her to the animal hospital where they could monitor her, keep her hydrated, express her bladder, move her body side to side to prevent sores, and manage her pain. The hospital has been taking good care of our girl, but ultimately, if she doesn’t show improvement on her own in the next day or so, we will need to make the decision to get her an MRI to properly diagnose what is happening to her, which may ultimately lead to surgery.

Between the hospital stay, MRI, and surgery, we are facing an approximately $25,000 bill. While we hope it does not come to that, if it did, it would be very difficult for us financially, and with 3 young children we aren’t sure how feasible it would be. That being said, with our backs against a wall, we could not look into our sweet girl’s eyes and tell her she wasn’t worth it, which is what lead us to the idea of fundraising.

We understand that to some people she is just a pet, but as many dog lovers know, that’s not how we see it; she is our family. She is still young enough at 5 years old that we could not bear to give up on her. While the idea of asking for money for ourselves/our dog is not ideal, we would be forever grateful if anyone was willing to make a small donation to Delta so we can bring her home and she can live out the rest of her “golden” years. Anything truly goes a long way.
