Help Delphina & Id Rebuild After Losing Everything in a Fire

On Wednesday, October 1st, a fire broke out in the apartment above Delphina and Id’s home, and in an instant, their lives turned upside down.

While they were able to save their beloved cat, Aya, much of their belongings were lost, but mainly the place they were calling home.

After days of confusion and misinformation, they were first told they’d never be able to return because of asbestos contamination, thankfully turning out to be water and smoke damage.

Now demolitions start on October 14th, and they’ve been given a short window to rush in and salvage what they can, and start the cleaning and disposal process.

Many of you know Delphina from her years here in the San Juan Islands - working with the County in Senior Services, and most memorably at the Family Resource Center with YAAS youth - before moving to Vancouver, Canada, two years ago to begin her life with her husband, Id.

Now, the community she once poured her heart into has the chance to give back.

For now, they are staying with Delphina’s mother and brother-in-law while facing the painful reality of starting over from scratch - just as they were dreaming of beginning a family.
