Help Deliver Hope to Asheville's Residents

Who we are:

Help us help Asheville! We're Ben and Matt, just two dudes from central Ohio aching over the devastation in Asheville and its surrounding areas. We're about doing things, and already have supplies coming in for a trip down the weekend of 10/12.

What we're doing:

We have 2 trucks with 14' trailers to start, but are hoping to need a U-Haul or 20 (just kidding, but imagine) to take all of the supplies down. If a U-Haul is not needed, the money will be put towards purchasing more supplies, gas and propane for the impacted residents, and anything else we can do once we're in NC.

Concerned this is a scam or that our efforts might be stopped due to the lack of access in the area? Here's the homework we've done so far:

We have several drop points identified, including the Red Cross Shelter, Hickory airport where helicopter sortes are being made, along with three other predesignated drop points as fallbacks. We have UHF, VHF, and CB radios for communications if cell service isn't available in the area, as well as GPS, Cell, and custom printed maps for our route. We will be carrying additional food, fuel, and first aid for any unknown detours, and have been working with people on the ground to get a reliable route sorted out, reliable drop off locations and have been working through appropriate channels.
