Delilah had a very rough start at life due to improper backyard breeding practices that didn’t take genetic health into concern and now we are looking into life changing surgery to allow her to open/close her jaw, be able to breathe without struggling, and reduce the risk of future teeth issues that would result in losing them. This cost will cover her initial consult with a specialist team who will sedate her for a CT scan then create a 3D mold of her skull to plan for a reconstructive jaw surgery and/or other possible avenues that will help her live with a good quality of life. 

She was born with a birth deformity that caused her upper jaw and nose to be twisted and fused together which in return, makes it so she cannot open or close her mouth and also affects her nasal passages. This innocent puppy was then abandoned in a rural area of New Mexico where she had to fight to survive at such a young age with so many disadvantages due to her deformity. She was found at an estimated age of 3 months old, although the animal shelter suspected that she was 5-7 years old at the time of being rescued due to how bad of shape she was in. The shelter was going to euthanize her until the rescue I got her from stepped in and picked her up.

When I came across her profile I knew she was the dog for me and I instantly fell in love with her cute face that reminded me of a Picasso painting. While her deformity does not stop her from living her best life, it has caused concern medically due to current and future health issues such as difficulty breathing, regulating body temperature, and life long issues with her teeth due to her jaw not being able to open or close. There have been multiple instances where she goes into a panic because she can’t breathe and it is terrifying everytime that happens. We currently utilize a nebulizer throughout the day and a humidifier at night to help with her congestion issues to soothe her breathing problems. When I first got her I noticed she would sleep standing up which I thought was just a quirky characteristic but I am starting to believe it is due to her health issues and standing up helps her breathe better.

I am doing everything in my power to make sure she has the life she deserves. This little girl is so full of life and has nothing but love coming from her, even with how hard of a start to life she had. She is so loved by everyone she meets and has even been told she touches their hearts with her story on how she overcame a hard beginning and still shows nothing but love in return to every person she meets.
