Hi, my name is Delfina, and I am fundraising to help with medical expenses for my family and I. Health insurance has been cut for both my mom and I. My dad is permanently disabled, and money has been very limited.

I am currently in treatment with a Hematology and Oncology department. Recently, I’ve been undergoing medical treatment for chronic anemia and a severe blood disorder, known as sickle cell anemia. I will be needing lifelong management, ongoing treatments, and care. This has made things challenging both physically and financially, affecting both my work and school. While I’m doing everything I can to focus on recovery, the medical costs have added up quickly.

My mom, who is 63 years old, is legally blind in her right eye and deals with numerous health issues, one of them being diabetes, and is being evaluated for tremors in her hands. Without insurance, her diabetes medications and insulin are over $4,000 for just a 30-day and 90-day supply. While we are doing our best to cover the necessary expenses, medical costs have been mounting rapidly.

Any donation, no matter the amount, will help alleviate stress and enable me to focus on recovery, allowing me to better support my family with their living costs and expenses, as I am their only child.

I am doing my part to manage my symptoms, so that I may continue my education and pursue a career as an education attorney in law school. I aspire to work with BIPOC and at-promise youth, especially continuation high school students who have endured hardships similar to mine, and hope to make a difference in my community. Being a premature, one-pound and 14-ounce baby, I’ve dealt with health issues throughout my life, but recently, the circumstances have become more grave.
