Each school year, the 6th graders at Delevan Drive Elementary take a trip to Wrightwood Outdoor Science School. Campers spend 5 days in cabins in the mountains where science content is taught by experienced naturalists. State science standards are taught through hands-on learning while exposing students to new social settings, exploring different environments, and providing them with new experiences. Students leave the program with a new sense of personal responsibility, independence and understanding of the natural world around them.
Due to a lack of district funding this year, we need extra financial help in order to make this trip affordable and accessible to all 6th graders at Delevan. The goal is to bring the cost per student down and to cover expenses like charter buses for transporting the campers to the mountains.
Please make a donation if you can to get our 6th graders to camp! Share this page with friends, family, employers, etc. Every donation - big or small - will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Katie Hartsell (6th grade parent and fundraising chair)
