Help Delbert through this unforeseen emergency

Good evening friends, family and Outer Banks surf community,

For those that may not know me, my name is Theresa Christian, life long friend of Delbert Melton. Our community came together a few years ago and rallied around Delbert raising necessary funds to save his land. $28,000 in less than a week. The outpouring of generosity from this community is unlike anything I've ever seen and is a true testament of the amazing people that live in the Outer Banks. Delbert needs us again. I received a scary phone call last Wednesday and thought we had lost him. He was experiencing pain and not feeling well. His roommate found him lying in the floor of his bedroom & took him to the OBX hospital where he steadily declined over 24 hours. An MRI revealed that he had a cyst on his spinal cord and he was rushed to Sentara Hospital in VA Beach. He had emergency surgery to remove the cyst, however, he developed blood cots in his leg and lung, which were removed/dissolved today. He called me this evening and he's on the mend but has a very long road ahead of him. It was so great to hear his voice. It is unknown at this moment what his exact needs are going to be but I know that he is very stressed about how he will get his rent paid. He will remain in the hospital through next week at the least. Once released, he will spend about 3 weeks in rehabilitation. He had just started a new job at the Circle K which he hopes to return to as soon as he is able. I'm reaching out to our surfing community and beyond for financial donations no matter how big or small, to help support Delbert and supplement his basic needs during this time. It's imperative that his rent be maintained so that he has a home to return to once he's back on his feet. Delbert is family to my kids and I and I cannot imagine his loud mouth not out in the water yelling at someone to "PADDLE HARDER"!! "You're in the impact zone, PADDLE HARDER!!!" Let's show Delbert how much he is loved and come through for him one more time!!
