Help Delano Allen finish his short film.
Hi everyone! My name is Delano Allen, I am a student filmmaker from New Rochelle, New York. I have spent the past two years directing, writing, producing, shooting, and editing my first feature film "Apologetically Black". I now need your help to take it to the finish line!
"Apologetically Black" focuses on the struggles a teen faces as she becomes conflicted with her identity as a black woman in America. The topic of black shame is at the epicenter of our film. This topic resonates with me because of how little it is discussed. I have personally felt the pressure of “adjusting” my brand as a young black man for approval from others. Our protagonist, Akeelah is conflicted with society’s interpretation of a black woman in America, which leads her to believe there is only one definition of being black. Through Akeelah’s journey, it is my goal to show black women that they are beautiful just the way they are and they don't need society’s approval for how they choose to represent themselves.
Representation of black characters by black filmmakers is essential and has been lacking in mainstream media for many years.
All donations will assist in our final sound editing and color correction to provide the film with the environment it needs by increasing its storytelling power.
Every donor will receive a:
• Special "thank you" credit
• A private link to view the film upon completion
• A signed poster from the cast
Let’s be honest. There are a lot of places you can donate. Why is this different?
With your generosity towards this film, not only are you helping this film come to life, but you are also helping to uplift one black story at a time when diversity in storytelling is at a crossroads. Many stories are getting told, but not enough. Your support will help black artists share relevant and important stories, beginning conversations with this film that are too important to ignore. Feel free to give anything. There is no donation too big or small.
